Chip Kawalsingh (Senior Pastor of Harvest City Church)

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. (2 Corinthians 1:4-6, NLT)

We have seen that our country is fearful and uncertain. No one knows exactly what the future holds for sure – except the one who holds it all in His hand. As believers, we stand in faith on the promises of God that comfort us in times of trouble. Psalms says, ‘Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles’ (Psalm 119:50, NLT).

Now is precisely the time to rise up in faith and not cower in fear. Before anything happens, ultimately God knows the result. No matter what man says, God determines the outcome. ‘We may throw the dice but the Lord determines how they fall‘ (Proverbs 16:33, NLT).

The church will rise and be strong as she has done for centuries. As I preached on Sunday, we can be comforted by trouble that ‘He will work all things together for good to them that love the Lord‘. Don’t hold back on your faith confession and your faith action: that is, your giving to the Lord. David said ‘Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned
or their children begging for bread’ (Psalm 37:25, NLT).

Don’t stop believing. Now is the time to rise. When moments like this happen – as it has throughout my lifetime – the world reacts the same way: fear, worry and panic. We, as believers, must stand on the word of God daily. Now, more than ever, we must learn to trust Him in everything and every situation.

Don’t withhold from God. Although we walk through this uncertain time God will always have our best interests at heart. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Just trust in God. Jesus addresses this in Matthew.

So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:31-33, NLT)

So what should I do?

  • Trust God in everything
  • Know scripture
  • Be filled daily with the Holy Spirit
  • Have a daily faith confession
  • Put on the full armour of God
