Colossians 3:2 (NIV) – Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Things that affect us all can sometimes be tough to deal with. For some things like rain, changes in the weather, feeling sick or when the car breaks down, we learn what to do and how to overcome it. Other things are not so easy, things like famine, earthquakes, and terminal sickness. These can begin to go into a realm greater than we can sometimes cope with. This is where the strength that comes from relationships with God and His Church comes into play. He helps us when life becomes too big.

Romans 8:26 (NIV) – In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Our greatest battle is in the mind. Everyone has a world in their own minds that affects the real world they live in. This is where the invisible begins to affect the visible. If this happens, our perception can become twisted or blurred to the point where life in the real world becomes too much. Many people will then look for ways to escape. The problem with these ‘escapes’ is that it’s not too long until all the thoughts come rushing back like a flood. This is where a disciplined lifestyle comes in.

Deuteronomy 11:18 (NLT) – So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.

This calls for us to do our part, ‘set our minds’ on things above or ‘put on the whole armour’ of God. This means we actually have to physically do it. Yes, Christ overcame the powers of Hell and evil, but we have to walk in that reality daily and pull down the evil thoughts that can come and bombard us.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NKJV) – >For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

One of the greatest weapons we have is the local church! It comes from being part of a church and being faithful to His House, not missing church. Something amazing happens when we worship together, hear his Word and walk together in genuine relationship. Remember, Church is where God’s power and authority are displayed!

Ephesians 3:10-11 (NIV) – His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
