Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. (Ephesians 4:23, NLT)

Your attitude is very important. A great attitude is not only a healthy thing, but it will also get you a long way in life. Without a great attitude, our world view becomes bleak and such a person does not make for good company. We are encouraged by Scripture to have the same attitude as Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).

Here are eight great life attitudes to have:

  • Have a Christ-like attitude
  • Have the attitude of a starter
  • Have the attitude of a finisher
  • Have the attitude of a church-builder
  • Have the attitude of a giver
  • Have an attitude of joy in every situation
  • Have a ‘trusting in God’ attitude
  • Have a ‘love for God above everything else’ attitude

One of the great attitude stories in the Bible is found in Mark 10:46-52. The story is of a blind man called Bartimaeus. As you read the account, you get the impression that this man was in a desperate situation, not knowing what to do to get out of his problem. He would have heard of the man Jesus, knowing that if anyone could help, Jesus could. However, he didn’t get the support of the people with him, the crowd, or even the disciples. But that didn’t break his spirit: the Scripture says in verse 48, ‘Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more!’

You cannot let the crowd or your culture tell you who you are and what you will do and say. No matter what sort of start you’ve had in life, where you’re going is more important than where you come from. You’ve got to remember to shout all the more, cry out to God and seek Him. Trust Him!

Winston Churchill, one of Britain’s greatest prime ministers, once said in the face of attack from the enemy, ‘We will never surrender!’ What a great attitude to have when it comes to the things of God.

So what does this mean to me?

Pray First, Act Later

I will go to God first in every situation. Not depending on yesterday’s answers to solve today’s problems, I will seek God daily for a fresh word. I will break through to a higher level in God. I will hide myself in the secret place until an answer comes.

I Will Go To Church

I will commit myself to attend church at all times. If it’s a matter of choice, I will always choose church over everything else. My love for God is shown in my commitment to His bride, the church. I will not forsake the meeting together of my true family. I will talk positively about His bride, and never walk out on my church family.

I Will Obey My Leaders

I will commit myself to church and submit to God’s authority in His house. To reject God’s authority is to reject God (Numbers 12:1-11). I understand that this has nothing to do with my likes, my leaders’ age, or cultural background. I obey those who have rule over me as this will bring a blessing and protection in my life. I choose to surround myself with people of faith and those who are part of the local family of God.

Obey your [spiritual] leaders and submit to them [recognizing their authority over you], for they are keeping watch over your souls and continually guarding your spiritual welfare as those who will give an account [of their stewardship of you]. (Hebrews 13:17, AMP)

Let them do this with joy and not with grief and groans, for this would be of no benefit to you. (Hebrews 13:17, AMP)
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:25, NLT)
