Showing the love of Jesus is critical to authentic Christianity. It’s His amazing love that brings us all into His Kingdom through salvation and it’s the church – His instrument of change – which is the vehicle that keeps us on course for His eternal purpose. In all of this we all must do our part, showing this amazing love to one another.

‘So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.’ (John 13:34-35, NLT)

This means we must – without any hesitation – show this love to one another.

‘If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.’ (1 John 4:20-21, NLT)

With these Scriptures in our hearts, let’s all do our part.

What can we do?

Whatever we can do to help, let’s do it! Encourage one another to help with lifts, or even offer to pay for a taxi to bring a family to church if you can; dropping off some groceries shows someone God’s love like you wouldn’t believe, and just a phone call or text to say ‘we miss you’ goes a very long way.

Whatever it is, we can share this amazing love of Jesus with each other and the rest of the world. Jesus said it this way:

‘Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me. If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.’ (Matthew 10:40-42, NLT)

Notice the progression:
1. Receive Jesus – the Father’s reward
2. Receive a prophet – a prophet reward
3. Receive a righteous person – a reward like theirs
4. Give a cup of water – you will be rewarded!

The ultimate act of a fellow believer in Christ hinges on the last part: ‘give even a cup of cold water’. We must all do our part to share in this life. Jesus said to the women at the well, ‘l will give you water that you will thirst no more!’ This living water is alive in us so that we can do our part and share His amazing love.

Please let me also encourage you to make an extra effort to get to church, whatever service you are at. Let’s all come together as one church – listening to one voice, moving in one direction, everyone doing their part. As a result our church will continue to grow through genuine, love-driven relationships and evangelism.
