Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord. (Psalm 27:14, AMP)

I don’t enjoy waiting. In fact I really dislike it. I often travel to various parts of the world to speak in churches and at conferences and the worst part for me is the waiting! Waiting in airports, waiting for lifts; even waiting in life for God to do what He said He will do. I find it all frustrating! However, we must remember that our waiting for the things of God is not in vain.

God will come through. For every instance of bad news there will be good news, for every disappointment an opportunity will open up and in every seemingly upturned situation, God is working out something far better than we can see.

Romans 8:28 tells us that ‘all things work together for the good of those who love Him.’

Sometimes I don’t understand this Scripture in the light of human suffering and unfulfilled promises, but I still put my trust in Him that good can come out of a bad situation.

We often try to work out everything with human wisdom and human understanding. We must remember that ‘His ways are not our ways‘, we need to ‘focus on the unseen‘, we need to ‘lean not on our own understanding‘, but in everything we do wait on the Lord. Those who do will ‘renew their strength, mount up with wings as eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and shall not faint‘ (Isaiah 55:7-11; 2 Corinthians 4:18; Proverbs 3:5; Isaiah 40:31).

Life is not always fair, not always just and not always right, but the one thing we should do is keep our eyes on Him. If we do that then the problems and trials of this world will grow dim. Paul puts it this way, ‘one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on…’ (Philippians 3:13-14).

Discouragement can come creeping in when we are in the midst of life’s darkest moments. Take a minute, lift your eyes above the mountains, see beyond the disappointment and watch how the Lord will deliver you from your hour of darkness.

He will never leave you nor forsake you. Your waiting is not in vain.

What does this mean to me?

God has my best interests in mind

In times of waiting it can seem that ‘I am not important to God’. Well, you are important to God! He loves you and He has your best interests at heart.

The Lord knows what you need; He will provide a way and give you the ability to overcome what seems to be an impossible situation. He is God and He reigns.

(Please read and pray through Matthew 6:25-33; Psalm 91 and Psalm 27)

I will gather for church with my brothers and sisters

There is strength in church, when we gather with our spiritual family (whether that is in person, or online as we are at the moment due to Covid-19).

We should not miss church during the storms of life. Rather, we should assemble together, build on the rock of His Word and when the storms of life come we will be able to stand.

The church will provide shelter, help and encouragement during these low times and especially when we are in a season of waiting (Hebrews 10:25; Matthew 7: 24-27).

Don’t give up!

It’s easy to become discouraged during seasons of waiting and what seems like unanswered prayer. The temptation to give up will be stronger than ever during these times. Remember; never give up on God! He has not given up on you!

Don’t stop responding and praying for healing; don’t stop believing and don’t stop having faith. Now, even more than ever, press on, strain forward. God has not forgotten you. God has not left you behind. Your answer will come; your moment for healing will come. Don’t give up! Your answer is right around the corner.

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! (Psalm 121:1-2, NLT)
